Inconvenient selfportrait Photo Blog P#453 :

Some words about the current picture:

P#453: Inconvenient selfportrait.

Wow... The first words are surely: "Don't take it too seriously!"
It's the first time I tried self portraits, and I really don't know WHY I tried this posture... So please no 1st degree :D There's absolutely "NO MESSAGE" in that photo.
First, I wanted to use this picture with text to:
1/ Announce my twitter jump or,
2/ Announce that I'll be glad to offer my Photoshop skills to other photographer pictures...
Unfortunately I think this image doesn't fit with these announces :D (In fact it doesn't fit with any message) Buuuuut It's still a good picture, no?

Strobist infos: Canon 480Ex+Gary Fong rear left + Softbox top right Triggered by Cactus V2s.
Happy Monday and enjoy a 4 steps post processing before/after on this one.

  • Très bon! C'est toujours impressionnant de voir ce que tu réussis à faire en post-traitement, Bravo!Gino Caron @ 2009-03-02 11:34:06
  • Wow! What a spectacular portrait. The things I was most impressed with are the background.. a smooth brown. The jacket... I think the lighting an color at the end really transformed it and the brightening of the eyes. OK... also the better matching of the skin tone to the rest of the photo. Being a self-portrait makes it even more impressive. Love this.Mike Paulison @ 2009-03-02 13:09:35

  • OK, here is the fun part..... I've always thought you were a woman (seriously). It's a nice surprise to see your fine, handsome being as a man! BTW, I've been thought as the opposite sex as well--I guess this is a by-product of living in the virtual world. Beautiful lighting on your face/shoulder and I love what you've done with the background!Diane - Daily Walks @ 2009-03-03 12:59:56
  • Thank you Diame, that's really funny :DLaurent @ 2009-03-03 17:29:43

  • Yes, I think is a good picture, jajaja, but you aren't my type;-)

The way you manage the light is the best I can get in this photo too.

  • I am totally in love with your layout and everything...I don't even remember how I found your site while I was looking for a Wordpress theme. It has everything I have been looking for - well except that is is not mine. Would you be interested in "sharing" - I'd be willing to help get your name out into the "photo" world.

Really love the Photoshop work too - I'm jealous - that must be why I like the different stages that the image went through.

  • How do you get the skin tones to look so real?Jason N @ 2009-05-03 22:30:24
  • @Jason: There's plenty of techniques to get perfect skin tones, there's also people writing books about this. I think the best way is to use good "color" swatches or references and try to get them in your picture using "traditionnal" techniques: colors in color mode, selective colors, channel mixer etc... trying using your eyes and color samples. Cheers!Laurent @ 2009-05-04 07:40:25
  • Hahaha, j'ai du retard! Mais si on devais faire un Flyer avec DJ Bioman, on prend cette photo !! obligé !
